While a security system is a great step towards protecting your home, it shouldn’t be the be-all-end-all to your plan for securing your home. There are some simple steps you can do to ensure your home’s safety as we head towards winter.
Check Entry Points
Doggy doors and large vents create access points that need to be monitored. Trees should also be checked to make sure branches don’t provide an easy route to a window or balcony.
Put Away Tools
Never leave a rake, shovel or any other tool outside. It can be used to break a window in order to create an additional access point that may have been otherwise secure.
Lock It
Make sure to leave doors and windows locked when not in use. This is an especially important lesson to teach kids as they’re the most prone to forget.
Turn Lights On
Light can be a great deterrent to a burglary, especially as less and less daylight is available throughout the winter. Lights can be put on timers in order to make this process easier and automatic.
Following these simple tips can go a long way to help securing your home.
